What Do I Know?

The other day something happened that really shook me up.
Something shocking and unexpected and perplexing.
It made me doubt some things that I had believed to bereal and question my own truths.

And so I asked myself what is it I really do KNOW for sure
at this point in my life and I came up with the following.

I know that gratitude will fill my bank account faster than a New York minute.

I know there really isn’t any right or wrong,
only what my own heart is telling me.

I know that a good cup of tea can solve almost every problem and if not solve it,
at least soothe it for a little while.

I know that people need love more than they need things,
but things are sometimes how they get love.

I know that when I focus with absolute determination,
I always get what I want.

I know that laughter and sunshine can restore my soul.

I know that the sight of a newly opened morning glory makes my heart sing.

I know that nothing is more fun than playing with a puppy,
except maybe playing with a dolphin.

I know that some time by myself each day makes me easier to live with.

I know that the more I learn, the more humble I become.

I know that it’s the simple things in life that bring me joy
and I can choose to be happy for no reason.

I know that things change and that can be a good thing,
even if it doesn’t appear to be at the time.

I know that out of great sadness and despair, joy can come,
if I just surrender and let go.

I know that everything tastes better outside.

I know that pansies can be very deceiving.
They are much stronger and hardier than they look and so am I.

I know that freedom is an inside job.

I know that love is the only thing we take with us when we leave
and it is all that matters in the end.

Since today is the very first day of June 2011, and June has 30 days in it, I thought this piece would be appropriate.

How will your life be different in only 30 days from now? What will you have accomplished? What intentions will you set and where will you put your focus?

If you could close your eyes and open them on June 30, 2011, where would you like to find yourself?

What if you choose to be totally present and conscious for the next 30 days, not walking around in a daze, but aware of each precious moment, taking nothing for granted, counting each blessing, savoring each encounter, relishing each experience, feeling grounded to the earth, perhaps for the very first time, viewing it all from a higher place than before.

What new people, experiences, habits, will you welcome into your life and which ones will you have finally let go of and how will that make you feel?

What one thing can you promise yourself to do every single day, for the next 30 days, and keep your word about it, and how will it feel at the end of the 30 days when you have completed it? It could be writing an article a day, or dancing or exercising every day or simply remembering to keep your word. Keeping your word is a big one. If you did that alone for one entire month, you life will have changed dramatically.

Where will you be on the thirtieth day, what will you have accomplished, what will you have done with this precious thirty days that you have been given and what impact will that have made upon your life?

How many shots have you not taken?

Like many of us, you probably have a list of things you have been wanting to do but have never gotten around to. Like writing that book, going to Paris, asking the cute girl with the green eyes in your office for a date, starting your own unique business. And you probably have your reasons for not attempting to do so. Fear of failure, disappointment, or even sheer embarrassment. And whether you think these reasons are valid or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that another best seller is yet to be born, Paris awaits you with its french cuisine and side walk cafes, the cute girl in the office just might say yes and another Apple, Facebook, or Amazon story is waiting to be told.

Failure isn’t missing the shots, Failure is never even trying in the first place.

And this brings me to another relevant quote:

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas Edison

Where would we be if Thomas had given up, or worse yet, not even taken his shot. We would all be stumbling around in the dark.

It’s time today to take your shot. You know the one I am talking about. You know it very well. You have known it for a very long time.

Today, right now, do one single thing that will move you in the direction of your dream. Make a phone call, send an email, do some research online, join a mastermind group for support, just one simple thing to get the momentum going.
