7 Tips To Find Out Why & Change It

I once heard it said that if you say you really want something and you don’t have it, then it is because, deep down, you don’t really want it at all. When I first heard this, I thought it was hard to believe, however, in thinking about it for some time, I had to admit there certainly is some truth there.

Here are some possible reasons why you may not have what you are desiring just yet. Perhaps you can relate to some of them. This is certainly not a judgement call. I myself have been in some of these places at different times during my life. I include these here hoping that it might give you some insight. Simple awareness can be most helpful sometimes in turning things around. As always, be gentle with yourself.

1. You’re stuck in the “pay off”. What is the pay off for staying where you are now? I knew of a woman who complained constantly that her husband never paid any attention to her. She was diagnosed with cancer and all of a sudden her husband was at her side, tending to her every need. Shortly thereafter, she became cancer free and her husband went back to his old ways, much to her dismay. Months later, the cancer was back and so was her husband. My point: you may be saying that your desire is to be healthy or wealthy, but if health and wealth are not showing up in your life, then take a good look at “what is”. There may be some clues there as to why.

2. You’re afraid to hurt or lose someone you love. Who would you hurt / lose if you suddenly became rich? Would you be making more money than your parents did and would that offend or hurt them in some way? Would you be in an entirely different financial bracket from your friends and feel that they would resent you or even worse, abandon you?

3. You’re addicted to the drama. You complain about the struggle but you re-live it over and over again. Does it make you feel alive, on some level? A friend of mine recently became debt free and when I asked how that made him feel, he told me that he felt empty inside. No struggle, no drama, no reason for living. Unfortunately, that is true for many of us. How about you?

4. You still have feelings of “not good enough”. Have you ever felt like a small child standing outside of a candy store. You look in the window at all of that candy just waiting there to be devoured, but you don’t feel like you will ever be able to walk inside that door and take it. You see others going in and out of the candy store, but you feel it could never happen for you.

5. You feel safe “playing small”. Playing small is comfortable. Playing big would require you to move out of your comfort zone. It may require that you put yourself out there and that can be a scary thing. Are you ready to, as they say, feel the fear and do it anyway?

6. You believe that “money is bad and / or evil”. This belief is reinforced by the media at every turn. It would be hard to escape not feeling just a little like this. However, it may serve you well to remember that Mother Teresa created lots of money, without which she would not have been able to accomplish what she did and change the world. Think about that.

7. You “get in your own way”. You decide to move forward towards your dreams, you set some financial goals, you begin to feel hopeful, and then you sabotage yourself at every turn, with your thoughts, words and deeds, which are totally contrary to what you have chosen. The sad thing is that you probably don’t even realize that you are doing it.

So, is there an area of your life where you have been saying you want something and you still don’t have it? If so, perhaps take some quiet time and ask yourself why that might be.

The Done Deal

If you have made a choice for example, to BE wealthy and you find yourself still struggling, that is a sign that something is out of alignment.

So, if you decide to experience more wealth in your life and you are holding the feeling of that, the essence of that in your heart and mind, but over lunch with a friend you both start talking about how bad the economy is, that your sales are down and you don’t know how you are going to pay your rent this month, then you have just contradicted in word and vibration, what you originally put out there.

This is not a conversation a wealthy person would have. This is a conversation a scared person would have. And it is not a conversation you have the luxury of indulging in either if you want to go where you say you want to go. You cannot decide to BE something and hold that state and then have contradictory thoughts, feelings, conversations or actions around it. If you find yourself doing something like this, then of course, don’t beat yourself up about it, just gently notice and steer yourself back on track.

What you need to do next is prepare for its arrival. Just as you would prepare a nursery for your unborn baby if you were pregnant, you must do the same for your inner creation.

Once you make a very conscious choice with conviction knowing that your desire is on the way to you, it is basically “A Done Deal.”

Several years back when I was working on creating more wealth in my life, I would often go to the beautiful Banff Springs Hotel which is an hour and a half drive from where I live in the Rocky Mountains.

I would go there and sit in this lovely room which was open to the public, with old wooden desks and big winged back chairs with huge windows and I would write in my journal. I would write about my life as I desired it to be as if I were already living that.

The view was spectacular and I would sip coffee as I basked in the ambience and the opulence of being in such a majestic place. One could never feel poor in a place such as this. And it was freely available for just the price of some java. I was preparing myself for wealth by putting myself in the “energy” of wealth and acting “as if” I was already there.

And it felt sooooo good, very natural. I suppose being surrounded by so much beauty and incredible abundance made me realize how available prosperity can be for us if we only “have the eyes” to see it.

So, here is a review of the process of creation.

- Decide what it is you want.
- Get very clear about what that is and why you want it. The “why” is important!
- Write it down.
- When negative thoughts or feelings show up and in the beginning they surely will, write those out on a separate sheet of paper, as explained in Day 4 – Clearing the mental clutter.
- Focus once again on your desire. Find ways in your day to feel good, to experience the ”feeling state” of what you believe having your desire would bring you.

We decide what it is we CHOOSE TO BE in our life, what we choose to experience and then declare it to the world and ourselves using the I AM Principle, which is simply saying I AM that. This declaration that we have made then becomes our state of BEING.

Saying the words “I AM” with conviction, sends direction to all the cells of our body and also to every level of our consciousness about what we choose to experience, right here, right now. Everything comes together then to help us express that state of Being. So, having something comes after being something. Whatever it is you want, BE that thing. If you want more love in your life, BE LOVE, be loving to yourself and others.

This is not the same as saying mechanical affirmations which have no real feeling or power. These types of affirmations can actually keep us stuck because there is no real belief or potency behind them. Often with these types of affirmations, we are just saying the words by rote and we have not CHOSEN to actually BE the state we desire. It is a very different vibration!

I am statements are extemely powerful. Be very careful about using negative I AM statements throughout your day in your everyday speech and thoughts such as, I am tired, I am broke, I am sick, etc. If you find yourself doing that, gently notice and simply change it to something you would prefer to experience. Never beat yourself up about anything. Just notice as an outside observer would, make a new choice and move on. Remember to BE KIND to yourself always.

So, in order to change your life, you need only to shift your perception. Sounds great, you’re thinking, but HOW do I do that? The answer… PRACTICE!

It is all about PRACTICE. How do you learn to play the piano? One note at a time, one day at a time, and PRACTICE! It is the very same with Wealth, Abundance and Prosperity. Practice! You need to start noticing how abundant the Universe already is. When you are out walking, begin to notice how lavish everything is, the hundreds of trees, the thousands of leaves, the profusion of wildlife and flowers, the vastness of the sky, the opulence of nature all around you. When you go to the grocery store, wander around the produce section and notice how plentiful it is. The thousands of colorful and flavorful fruits and vegetables at your disposal.

Notice… Notice… Notice…
Practice…Practice… Practice….

Sounds silly? Perhaps, but you can be serious and poor, or silly and rich.
It is always your choice!”

When I read this quote today, it made me think back on all of the meals I have shared with others. The memories of some of the really special ones will always be with me. Thanksgiving, comes to mind, as well as Christmas turkey dinners, but the ones that are the most memorable, are the simple ones. The ones that were spontaneous, the ones outside in the garden, the crazy ones in the forest, the ones by the ocean, the ones in the sky, the ones on top of a mountain, the ones with only one other person and the ones with just little old me.

I especially remember the one where I crawled on my belly, on the ice and snow, for a very long time, to get to the picnic table beside the fireplace, in the middle of a campsite, in the winter, where no one else was around, but the two of us. I will never forget that one. We were so cold, we had to burn the picnic basket for wood. However, whenever I think of it, it always brings a smile to my face. It is one of my most cherished memories of perseverance and determination and oh, the food tasted sooo good!

What are some of your delicious memories? Take some time today to remember, savor and delight in once again. And if you find you do not have too many memories yet, go out and make some.

As 2011 begins to unfold, this would be the perfect time to take the advice in the above quotation to heart and start thinking for yourself, to start thinking bigger, greater, grander than you ever have before. To say “yes” more to what life is wanting to offer you. To dream new dreams and imagine more lofty ideals for your life.

I’d like to tell you a story here that may help you understand this idea of just thinking “bigger”. Several years ago I designed a website for my FREE, inspirational, self-help, print magazine. The site had over 300 pages on it filled with articles, interviews and a lot of really valuable content. At that time I also created a daily inspiration and daily kindness page where I included uplifting and inspiring stories and suggestions for possible acts of kindness. These pages were very popular with lots of visitors and some great feedback. I also provided a link where people could send in donations. During one particular month I was feeling very discouraged and even a little angry. I felt I was putting in a lot of effort with very little return. That month no one had donated anything at all. At the time, on this donation page, I offered specific amounts of money that people could choose to donate, along with various gifts for each price level. These suggested offerings ranged from $25.00 up to $100.00. So on this particular day, in a bit of a huff, I just thought to myself, “Well, if I am going to get nothing for this work, I might as well ask the Universe for bigger amounts of nothing.”

Don’t ask me where the logic was in that. I have no idea. It didn’t really make any sense at the time, and I can’t even believe now that I even thought that. However, I went ahead and changed the donation amounts to start at $50 and go right up to $500.00. To make a long story short, that very same day, I received my first $500.00 donation with two more to follow shortly thereafter. I can’t really explain it, since nothing else had changed, except to say that in that moment I started thinking bigger. And I don’t believe it mattered what the catalyst was to get me to do that. The end result was what mattered. I asked for more. I demanded more. I felt I really did deserve more and so, I was given more.

So I ask you today, where in your life, do you feel you deserve more and why aren’t you asking for it? And if it takes getting angry to get you to move out of your comfort zone, then go for it! Anger can catapult you to freedom and help motivate you into making more empowered choices that move you in a new and bigger direction.

The Vortex is an emotional state of being.

Abraham and Esther Hicks talk about this concept in one of their books, The Vortex. They say, “When you ask for something everything that is necessary for the fulfillment of this that you have asked for is being summoned to the vortex.The vortex is the ‘vibrational place’ (escrow) where you are accumulating all the things you have asked since you were born. Nobody has access to it but you. Nobody can get in and take your things. You need to get in the vortex to get all the things you want. When you are in the vortex you are in this magical swirl of all things working out for you.”

In the quest for creating and/or manifesting more money in their lives, I see many people making the following mistakes. Most of the time, they are not even aware that they are doing it, at least not consciously. So let’s take a look at 3 of the most self defeating mistakes people make, and then what to do instead.

Mistake #1 - They get busy figuring out how they are going to make it (wealth) happen for them. They try to think of ways to save money or work more hours in order to get more money or come up with a plan of action. In short, they get in their own way.

What to do instead: Allow. Allow. Allow. Start from the end desire. Write down what it is you are wanting to have /create and then allow the universe to bring it to you. Do only those things that you feel guided / inspired to do in the direction of your goals/ dreams. Those things that feel good, and you will be led one step at a time to your destination. Remember, focus on the end result / desire, not how you are going to get there or where it is going to come from. Don’t put limits on yourself or the universe. Stay open to possibilities and delightful surprises along the way.

Mistake #2 – They feel safe “playing small”. Playing small is comfortable. Playing big would require them to move out of their comfort zone. It may require that they put themselves out there and that can be a scary thing, so they procrastinate, or avoid or delay and do whatever it takes to put things off, for just another day, or another week, or another month, or another year, or another lifetime!

What to do instead: Decide to, as they say, feel the fear and do it anyway? Take small steps in the direction of your dreams. Do one small (or big) thing every day or week that you have been afraid to do and keep moving forward with that. Pretty soon, you will begin to feel less and less afraid and more and more confident and exited about your life as you begin to see your victories and accomplishments take shape.

Mistake #3 – They focus on what they don’t want. They are caught up in their own story of lack and limitation and they talk about it constantly to themselves and to others. They speak about how they can’t make ends meet, lament about how they are so tired of the struggle, and moan about how depressing things are. The more they do this, the more stuck, powerless and frustrated they feel.

What to do instead: Simply really! Focus on what you DO want. Choose wealth and tell yourself that nothing else is acceptable. Think, speak and act as if you are already wealthy now. Imagine your life the way you would like it to be. Start by being grateful for all of the abundance of blessings you already have in your life and focus on those. Gratitude opens doors! It paves the way to wealth and prosperity like nothing else. It can line your pockets with gold and fill your bank account quicker than a New York minute.

Today would be a good day to look back over 2009 and find some things to feel good about. What did you accomplish last year, and where in your life, were you more conscious and present? What wonderful things happened in the last twelve months? Forget about where you may have fallen off track. Give that no attention. Focus on what went right!

You might want to ask yourself the following questions:

• Did I take even one step forward towards my dream or goal and if so, what was that step or steps?
• Who (what person) or what experience made me feel generous, magnanimous, expansive, last year?
• Did I experience any “ah-ha” moments, insights, breakthroughs in the last 365 days?
• Where did I find the joy in my life in this past year? Who or what made me laugh out loud?
• What happened that gave me a sense of relief and peace?
• Who helped me along my way and have I said thank you?
• Who or what caused me to feel a sense of accomplishment?
• Did I take some time to celebrate my victories along the way? Remember it is not the size of the victory that matters, but the fact that you took the time to acknowledge it. It helps to build your “success muscle” so to speak.
• If I could do it over, these past 52 weeks, what one thing would I have done differently perhaps? Guess what? You do get to do it over, in the next twelve months!

So in this past year, what was the most “delicious” moment of your life? The one that made your heart sing, smile that secret smile, and really feel that life was truly worth living!

You are now heading into a brand new year, 2010. You can take these joyful, positive and productive experiences and use them to catapult you into the rest of this year, where you can build upon them. This means that you are already much further ahead towards your dreams and goals than you were just a year ago. You are moving forward, you have established momentum, whether it feels like it or not yet.

Get ready to make 2010 the very best year of your life so far!
