Today is St. Patrick’s Day! This day always brings so many happy memories to mind of growing up with an Irish mother. My mom lived in Ireland until she was 13 years old and her mother died making her an official orphan, having lost her father when she was just born. Shortly thereafter she moved to London, England. However, her love for Ireland was always with her and she instilled that love in me in the most profound ways.
In our family leprechauns were considered normal and I grew up believing that there really was a pot of Gold at the end of the rainbow. At the age of 6 I knew the words to every Irish song ever written. But the best part of St. Patrick’s day for me was going to a Canadian school with “real live shamrocks” pinned to my tunic that my mother’s childhood friend in Ireland sent us every year. I was so proud of them and of being “Irish”.
So, I offer you this Irish Blessing In loving memory of my Mother, Molly McCabe whom I am sure is dancing the Irish jig today wherever she is!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Take care and have a lovely St. Patrick’s Day!
Love and blessings, Veronica
